“Georgia deliberately postpones the start of construction of Kars-Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi-Baku railroad,” a Turkish high-ranking foreign ministry official is quoted as saying by APA. Despite the fact that Turkey and Azerbaijan spare no effort to start construction of the railway line, Georgia by any means is trying to drag out the process, the source says. Noting that Turkey is ready to allot its share for construction worth $220 million, and Azerbaijan has already given its investment money for it, the source says: “We can say we do not ask money from Georgia to construct this railway.” Despite the fact that Georgia is a party that will have more profit from realizing the project, “Tbilisi is putting bureaucratic obstacles on the way to postpone the construction,” the source says. “It is impossible to comprehend it,” the official says.

It is worth mentioning, Armenia is proactively opposing construction of the Kars-Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi-Baku railroad motivating it by the fact that the road is being constructed passing over already existing Kars-Gumri-Tbilisi-Baku road.
